Taylor Made Diagnostics Inc., operates an occupational health clinic and mobile medical teams which have provided services to more than 1,700 federal, state and local employers. Founded by Caroline Taylor, a Registered Nurse (RN), with over 27 years of healthcare experience, Taylor Made will celebrate its 20th Anniversary this year. In 2009, Taylor Made expanded and was the first business to purchase an office condo in the new Gateway at SoNo complex. With headquarters in Chesapeake’s South Norfolk area, Taylor Made has grown to 18 employees.

Taylor Made supports many charities such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, HER Women’s Shelter, South Norfolk’s National Night Out Sponsor and the South Norfolk Angel Tree. “To be recognized as the Chesapeake Business of the Year is truly an honor,” said Caroline Taylor, RN, Founder and President of Taylor Made Diagnostics (TMD). “We look forward to continued growth as our focus produces responsive, committed and innovative workforce solutions to ‘Protect the Health of local and national businesses’.”

Técnico Corporation is the Chesapeake Port Authority’s 2015 Waterfront Business of the Year. Técnico Corporation, a navy ship repair and modernization contractor, headquartered in Chesapeake’s South Norfolk area is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. Técnico has grown from 30 employees in 1990 to nearly 500 today. Técnico’s Chesapeake facility recently expanded to encompass six buildings, including a new Shipyard Trade Apprenticeship Training Classroom.

In 2014, Técnico supported nearly 30 national and local charitable organizations with donations totaling nearly $40,000. In support of the local community, Técnico provides services to the Southside Boys and Girls Club. Técnico employees also participate annually in fundraising events for the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk–earning numerous awards for employee participation and money raised.

“The Employee Owners of Técnico Corporation are very appreciative and humbled to be selected as the Chesapeake Port Authority’s Waterfront Business of the Year for 2015. We very much appreciate that our loyal and dedicated workforce is being recognized for their efforts in supporting our country by keeping our naval fleet in a state of readiness. Being located in the South Norfolk section of Chesapeake allows us to reach the majority of our work locations in a matter of minutes. As we celebrate our 25th year of business, we’d like to say ‘thank you’ to the City for being so supportive of our operations in South Norfolk,” said Ray Witterhseim, President and CEO of Técnico Corporation.

“We’re pleased to recognize Taylor Made Diagnostics and Técnico Corporation for their roles in driving our economy forward with sustained employment levels, new investment and job creation in the Commonwealth, region and city,” said Steven C. Wright, Director, Chesapeake Economic Development Department. “We’re proud these two companies call Chesapeake home and contribute to a quality of life that benefits all of our citizens.”

The honorees received their congratulatory awards at the 15th Annual Chesapeake Business Appreciation Golf Classic held at Cahoon Golf Course on May 15th. More than 150 members of the business community and city officials were in attendance. The golf tournament’s net proceeds will benefit the Chesapeake Youth Foundation.
