Chesapeake, VA – March, 2016 – Taylor Made Diagnostics is proud to announce that President Caroline Taylor has been selected as the 2016 ‘Virginia Small Business Person of the Year’ by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Each year the SBA selects outstanding small business leaders from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. A panel reviews all nominations and a National Small Business Person of the Year is selected from the Regional level winners.
Since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation each year declaring National Small Business Week. This May 1st and 2nd small businesses of America will be celebrated and SBA Person of the Year state winners will be honored at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C.
“As we mark 71 consecutive months of job growth in the United States, we know that this achievement is only possible due to the hard work and perseverance of entrepreneurs like you, “said SBA official Maria Contreras-Sweet. “America’s small business owners sacrifice and struggle each day to build their businesses. It’s only fitting that during National Small Business Week, we celebrate your contributions to our nation and recommit ourselves to empowering entrepreneurs and small businesses who help drive America’s economy. Thank you for all you have done to build your business and strengthen our nation. “
In order to be awarded as Small Business Person of the Year the judges look at the following criteria:
- Staying power — a substantiated history as an established business.
- Growth in number of employees — a benchmark to judge the impact of the business on the job market.
- Increase in sales, net profit and net worth for calendar years 2012, 2013 and 2014.
- Innovativeness of product or service offered — an illustration of the creativity and imagination of the nominee.
- Response to adversity — examples of problems faced in the nominee’s business.
- Contributions to community-oriented projects — evidence of the use of his/her personal time and resources and the methods used to solve them.
Caroline’s approach is always to enjoy what you do, lead with kindness and careful consideration and be the example you want to see the world. Per Taylor, “Success lies within the team, creating a cohesive team, clarifying responsibility, holding each other accountable, celebrating the victories and doing what is right for our customers.”
